Fox has announced that it has ordered 22 episodes, a full second season’s worth, of the J.J. Abrams series Fringe. Fox started with a half season, ordered the second half, and has now jumped forward to a second season early in the game. Click Heading For More.

A movie based on the Deadpool character starring Ryan Reynolds, who played the role in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, is being developed by Fox, according to the Hollywood trades. This is in addition to the Wolverine sequel in development and a Magneto film currently planned for 2011. Fox and Seed Productions - which is co-owned by Wolverine star Hugh Jackman and John Palermo - have a sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine in development, according to Variety. The storyline will focus on the samurai storyline from the comics, according to the report. Click Heading For More.

Gareb Shamus, CEO of New York-based Wizard Entertainment, today announced he has acquired Big Apple Con, one of the trailblazing brands in the comic book and pop culture world, and the longest running annual show in New York City. Jackie Earle Haley, who played Rorshach in Watchmen, has been signed to play Freddy Krueger in the re-launch of Nightmare on Elm Street, according to Variety. The Platinum Dunes production starts shooting next month in Chicago.. Click Heading For More.

MTV is reporting that the iconic rap crew Public Enemy is “in talks with a major animation studio to produce a feature film based on their recent comic book exploits.” American Mule Entertainment is publishing the first graphic novel collection of the Public Enemy comic book in May. The volume collects the first five issues of the comic, which mixes fantasy and reality and is written by Public Enemy’s Chuck D and Adam Wallenta (with art by Wallenta). Public Enemy is among the most politically active rap groups so it should come as no surprise that the graphic novel features a guest appearance by President Barack Obama and a slugfest with ex-President George W. The nominations for the 21st annual Eisner Awards have been released, and Dark Horse has the most nominations of any publisher, with thirteen individual nominations and five shared. Behind Dark Horse were DC (10 individual, two shared), Marvel (nine, two), Drawn & Quarterly (ten), First Second (nine), Fantagraphics (seven), and IDW, Viz, Image, and AdHouse (five each). Five publications had four nominations each: Skim, Alan’s War, Umbrella Academy, Fables, and Madame Xanadu. Top creators (four each) are Emmanuel Guibert, Lynda Barry, and Chris Ware.
